In the world of sheet metal fabrication, efficiency is the key to success. Quality and reliability are crucial, while minimising labour and material costs increases profitability.
In order to set new standards in this area, Suplacon from Holland has decided to introduce WiCAM’s Power Nesting routine into its production operations.
Suplacon, a renowned company in Emmeloord, has specialised in the supply of sheet metal products and metal constructions for 45 years. With a team of over 100 employees, Suplacon supplies more than 1,000 different products to over 400 customers in the Netherlands every week.
The company specialises in customised steel and stainless steel products, including surface treatment and assembly. The company has been using WiCAM’s PN4000 CAD/CAM system since 2004.
In addition to quality and reliability, sustainability, delivery times and minimising waste also play a central role.
Optimum utilisation of machine capacity and optimal material utilisation are essential here.
With the implementation of WiCAM’s power nesting routine, Suplacon is taking a significant step forward. The software analyses customer orders digitally and uses various automatic functions to determine the optimum arrangement of the parts on the sheet. Priority, material type, turning angle and processing requirements are taken into account. Thanks to the powerful algorithms, complex sheet metal parts are processed more efficiently than with conventional systems.
Pim Jansen, Supply Chain & Finance Director at Suplacon, explains: “Since the introduction of WiCAM in 2004, our nesting strategies have proven their worth. But time does not stand still. After a brief evaluation of this new technology, it was clear that it would directly save us money and make our production process more sustainable.”
“The feedback from the market has been very positive. We often see yield improvements of 3 to 5 % or even more.
Using this technology is comparable to switching from CO2 to fibre technology: more speed and savings at the same time.”
Intelligent algorithms will play an important role in the manufacturing industry in the coming years. The industry, and suppliers in particular, are increasingly focussing on sustainability. At WiCAM, we continuously invest in innovative solutions that support these long-term goals.
