Hörmann focuses on maximum automation in China with WiCAM

With the new plant built in Changshu, China, in 2018, the Hoermann Group is expanding its presence in Asia to three locations. The new production site is designed for maximum automation and specialises in the production of sheet steel doors for hospitals, office buildings, schools, room doors and other applications in the public and commercial sectors.

A decisive factor for success in automated sheet metal processing is not only optimal material utilisation, but also flexibility. After a comprehensive evaluation together with the established sites in Europe and China, it quickly became clear that a manufacturer-independent software solution was needed to create a seamless interface between the machines used and the automation.

Thanks to the long-standing cooperation between the Hoermann Group and the WiCAM Group from Germany, the PN4000 programming software was chosen. This is being used for the first time at the new plant in Changshu in combination with a Salvagnini combination system and two 6kW LAG laser machines controlled in parallel. WiCAM GmbH developed a customised solution for the plant that reliably supplies all machines with the required data.

Mario Bock, Plant Director of the new production facility in Changshu, explains: ‘The decisive key factor was the flexibility of being able to connect different machines regardless of manufacturer. Then there was the variety and parameterisation of the incoming data, which is generated by our system and processed by the PN4000 from WiCAM – that was the basis for the decision to introduce the PN4000 programming system.‘”
